Orlaith Hamersley is a local artist living in Bunmahon, Co.Waterford Ireland. Orlaith returned to live in this part of the south east coast of Waterford so that her children could enjoy growing up in this beautiful rural seaside community. Orlaith says she is inspired to paint by the magnificent wildlife surrounding her. Our coast here is home to some amazing species of birds that are somewhat taken for granted until artists like Orlaith bring them to life for us by painting them. The birds in Orlaiths paintings are so lifelike it seems they are just going to soar off the page.

 This bird is totally faithful to the sea and rarely goes to land except to breed. At its breeding colonies the air is filled with cries of kitt-ee-wayke, from which the bird takes its name. Each painting uses acrylic on canvas and is signed and dated by Orlaith.
